A Good Night’s Sleep Is Just A Few Steps Away…
Hey there dolls! Here’s an easy read for today! Sometimes my insomnia kicks in and it can be hella trouble to drift off into dreamland so I thought I’d share some tips for best bed time habits to practice! I am NOT a professional in sleep therapy or anything of the sort but these are a few tricks I’ve picked up along the years that works for me from time to time. I believe in consistency and balance, therefore I believe if you were to practice a combination of these steps, you and your night time routine could definitely benefit in the long run.
I’ve tweeted a few before which got tonns of great responses as seen in the pic below 😀 So I’ll just expand on these and add a couple more!
*Drum Roll Please*
Let’s bring on some of the best bed time habits to practice:
1. Read Something You Like 📖
A good book more than often can fix almost any problem! Lol well I like to think this, but honestly, grab an easy read and be ready to call it nights out. I find a physical, good ole fashion book can help with a light glow from a table side lamp…It creates the perfect cozy mood. Since we’re in the 21st century and almost everything is digital, turn off your lights, grab your tablet and go to your iBooks or Kindle and switch on night mood. With my iPad it automatically comes on…You can get oh so cozy and ready to drift off. HOWEVER, fair warning, if you pick a juicy story and you’re at the edge of your bed, you may not want to put it down!
2. Drink Water/Milk/Tea 🥛
Okay, when I first tweeted this, I said “drink water/tea not caffeine” and had questions about whether tea didn’t have caffeine. It does and depends on the leaves used, some will have higher dosages than others BUT none will be as strong as your dosage for coffee or you can find caffeine free herbal teas. So grab a glass of milk/ water or hit the pot and get some tea! I think chamomile, lavender, ginger and peppermint are some of my faves!
3. Meditate 🧘♀️
I think meditation is more powerful than some people want to believe. It’s worth practicing, consistency is key in order to really feel the effects. Even after the first try you can feel a little more centered and calmer…It can do you so much good learning to practice of mindfulness.
4. Gaze At The Stars 🌃
If you’re like me and lucky to have a window with a nice view to look out, nothing beats some fresh air to calm your spirits. Take some time to gather your thoughts and gaze at one of nature’s best pictures. Even if you have to take a trip outside do it and carry a book to settle yourself or music and play dot-to-dot in the sky!
5. Listen To Soothing Music 🎶
Music is SO powerful! It can help with your mood beyond belief. Music can provide a great brain workout as it acts as a brain stimulant. Research has proven that music can incredibly kick start your creativity, aid with moods of depression, reduce stress and can help you listen to your body. Music can be a positive tool which can generate great results like better quality sleep! Forms of white noise machines can be proven effective for sleep, I use an app called Headspace which is quite nice if you don’t want to get the machine. Comment below and let me know some of your fave bedtime songs!
6. Stretch/Yoga 🧘♀️
I use the term yoga cautiously since as soon as people hear yoga they think human pretzel lol, however, there are simple stretches that can be done before bed to help relax the body for a better state of sleep. One method my old dance teacher taught me was a tense and stretch move. Where I would lie on my back, tense every limb in my body as tight as I can…then release. Do that a couple times with proper breathing and you’ll feel instantly mellow! Also you can check out the yoga video attached for some chill stretches!
7. Make Your Bed And Change Your Sheets 🛌🏼
This one is quite simple! Making your bed before you leave home can make it seem more inviting when you get home and is a simple psych trick – a clutter free bed = cozy and warm cuddles! Moreover, simply put, better sheets mean better sleep! Trading in your worn out sheets for softer, newer ones can never be disappointing.
8. Detach From Technology 📴
You here this tonnes of times! From your mom, granny or even your partner…Why don’t you put down the phone already! Lol sometimes that’s easier said than done like I totes get distracted on Twitter at night trying to reply to all the lovely notifications I get that I can’t get to during the day. But realistically, technology should be turned off at least 45 mins before your bed time so you can settle yourself and have few distractions 😀
